About

We can never go back in time for it is the natural evolution of life to always move forward. We can however, preserve those elements of the past that deserve to be preserved, and such is the argument for the preservation of Lagro Township. We have a rich land with rich heritage. Founded by destitute canal workers in the 1830′s, the stories of the Canal, the growth of Lagro and other small burgs within the township such as Lincolnville and Dora, Hopewell, childhood home of Gene Stratton Porter, and Urbana. These little towns are a part of our legacy.

Re-energized during the desperate times of the 1930′s, by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the second chapter of Lagro Townships’s history began with the Salamonie State Forest.

During the 1960′s, Chapter 3 was introduced when the Salamonie Reservoir was linked to the Huntington Reservoir to eliminate drastic flooding every spring into our valley.

Today, there is limitless recreation within the township with horseback riding, boating, forests and woods rich for hunters, and lakes and ponds filled with the goodness of fish for those who cast their cares upon the water.

We are proud of where we are from and hereby share our vision for a better tomorrow with those here and unborn.
